Key takeaways

  • A PSX game needs a place, characters and things to hold. This list gives you one source for each.
  • Pizza Doggy's PSX Nature is the usual pick for forests and outdoor scenes, rated 4.9 out of 5 from 63 reviews at the time of writing.
  • Ink Ribbon's rigged character bases cover characters, with editable files and updates in 2026.
  • Our town kit and four weapon packs cover buildings, interiors and weapons, and the town kit has a free edition.
  • Packs from different creators mostly match if you keep texture sizes and filtering the same and run everything through one PSX shader.

What a PSX asset pack actually is (and what it is not)

A PSX asset pack is a set of 3D models and textures made to resemble early PlayStation graphics. The recipe is low triangle counts, small textures with hard pixels and flat or vertex lighting. Some packs also add shaders that mimic vertex wobble and affine texture warping.

It is not automatically a PSX game. The look comes from the whole pipeline: models, textures, lighting, camera and post-processing. A PSX pack in a modern renderer with soft shadows and smooth texture filtering will look like clean low poly, not like the 1990s.

It is also not a single standard. Creators interpret the style differently. Some use 128-pixel textures, some 64, some add dithering. When you mix packs, normalise the texture sizes and filtering, and keep one colour palette. A single shader pass over the whole scene helps tie different sources together.

On itch.io, the PSX tag lists many packs, from free to paid. Look at update dates, ratings and whether the pack is editable. An editable .blend file lets you fix a texture or change a mesh. A closed FBX does not.
