Sizes follow each store’s public documentation at the time of writing. Check Steamworks and itch.io before you upload.
2. Why capsule art matters
The capsule or cover is the only thing most people see before deciding to click. It has to read as a thumbnail, so keep the logo large, centre the subject and keep text short.
Design at the largest size, scale down, then check the small version on a phone-sized screen.
3. A quick checklist
- Logo readable at the smallest capsule size.
- One clear subject, no clutter.
- Matches the style of the game, so players know what they get.
- No text you cannot read when the image is 200 pixels wide.
Use these sizes with the launch checklist, and see how to publish a game on itch.io for the rest of the page.
Tip: the resolution calculator helps with pixel art captures, and Preflight lists every store-page step.
Questions
itch.io recommends 630 × 500 pixels for the cover, with 315 × 250 as the minimum. The ratio is the same, so you can upload the larger file.
920 × 430 pixels. Steam asks for several other capsule sizes too, listed in the table above.
Stores update requirements from time to time. Check the Steamworks documentation and your itch.io project page before you upload final art.
